Generating financial, environmental and social systems in a way that maximizes the welfare of current and future generations is the most arduous task facing business and society today. There are no easy solutions. There is no lack of good intention. Many business executives usually are trying to do the right thing, but woefully, they are operating in a conventional business paradigm that often compels them to do the opposite. Current business paradigms and economic structures unintentionally create a situation where corporate survival often demands that companies must first and foremost focus on trying to maximize profit in the short term, which often elicits harm to the environment and society. Sadly, this also will damage business over the long term, because businesses cannot survive without contributing to the environment and society. Every business must choose to embrace ‘Phenomenance of Business’ or face slow but inexorable extinction.

is what ‘Phenomenance of Business’ is all about.

‘Phenomenance of Business’ is about using business as a way to create phenomena in the world. Phenomena are extraordinary occurrences or circumstances. Phenomenance is the ability to create a different possibility and create something beyond normal by other people’s standards. You and your business have the power to create a phenomenal difference, but, if you’re like most people, you may not realize it. This is not a mystical power that only a chosen few are blessed enough to be born with. It is a natural ability that can be developed and expanded. It’s an innate capability that everyone processes but never choose to practice. It has been covered up by a whole lot of self-imposed limitations for a long time.

If you would like to be a contribution to create a better world and a sustainable future on this planet, you’re going to have to look at how you could use your business to create something greater and to create a change that’s possible beyond this reality. Real phenomenance of business is recognizing the choice that you have that will create something greater. You’ve got to look from the question – “How do I use my business to create a different possibility in the world and a different reality for me and everyone around me?”

So, what does it mean to be using business as the way to create a phenomenon in the world? It means choosing to stop operating within the limitations of this reality and stop taking on the limited points of view that other people buy into. To create a difference possibility you must be willing to look at what is possible beyond what currently exists. Leonardo da Vinci and Steve Jobs are examples of people who were using business as a way to create phenomena in the world. They were naturally nonconformists even in the face of unfavourable consequences, and always looked for what else was possible that nobody else considered. They developed a power and potency to see different possibilities and were aware of different things. They undertook actions that produced societal value and shaped a future way beyond most people’s imagination. They inspired others to act.

Both Leonardo da Vinci and Steve Jobs didn’t let the controls of other people’s points of view, realities, judgments, and decisions become the controlling factor in their life. They had an unshakable courage and trust in their tenets, even though their initiatives and ventures confounded conventional practices, and often unleashed irregularity, mayhem, and chaos. They always trusted themselves and their vision, no matter what anyone else thought. They had absolutely no concern for what someone else’s point of view of them was.

So, how can you use business as the way to create a phenomenon in the world? First, you must realize that ‘Phenomenance of Business’ is a choice. It is a commitment you make to yourself to be something different, do something different and have something different. When you are willing to choose that difference and be that difference, you can be the choice for a different possibility for this world. If you truly wish to create a phenomenon in the world, you have to do it from a different position and to always look for what else is possible that nobody else considered.

Imagine what you could create and generate if you functioned from “What phenomenance can I be, do, have, create and generate that would allow me to use business to create a totally different possibility?”

Each of us has the ability to create a difference possibility and create something beyond normal by other people’s standards. It is a knowable and attainable state of being that is available to you, if you choose to claim, own, and acknowledge it.

To use business as a way to create phenomena in the world you have to:

  1. Be willing to push the boundaries of knowledge, exploring things that are outside of this reality.
  2. Be willing to be something different, do something different and have something different
  3. Cultivate capacity to see what else is possible, and what could be created that nobody else considered
  4. Develop the courage to stand alone, follow your own knowing, and take what others would regard as the risky options while everyone else selects the safe route.
  5. Make a commitment to yourself not to live by anyone else’s judgment and reality ever again, no matter what.
